April 27, 2010 by admin

Spyware is malicious software that runs on the system without the user’s consent. This software keeps a track on the user’s action and captures sensitive data like user’s personal information, surfing habits, websites visited etc. Moreover, it slows down the computer and can be a threat to your stored data. It is important to remove spyware from the computer to ensure security and enhance your system’s performance.
Here are some of the basic steps that you can follow to eliminate spyware from your computer for good:

  • The first and foremost step is to run an anti-spyware or anti-virus software. Anti-spyware is a software that scans the whole system to search for any installed spyware and deletes it if found.
  • After searching, remove the spyware detected by the software to protect your data and system.
  • Click on the Start button of the Windows Operating system to clean the remnants of the spyware. Select “Accessories” from “All Programs” and Run the “System Restore”.
  • Select an appropriate date and time from where you want to restore the data and files. Restoring a system will uninstall all the software that was installed knowingly or unknowingly.
  • Click on next to perform the restoring action. Once done, reboot (restart) your computer for the “system restore” to take effect.
  • Installing an anti-spyware and running it frequently is the best way to eliminate spyware from your system. There are two ways in which an anti-spyware program protects your computer: detection (scans the incoming files and prevents installation of any malicious program) or removal (performs schedule scans to track any spyware running and deletes them).

There are various anti-spyware software available in the market nowadays, like Spyware Search and Destroy, and Ad-Aware. These differ on the level of protection they offer, cost, system specifications as well as the additional features. Protect your sensitive data and your system with an effective anti-spyware program.
